Most of the time when we pull tarot cards, we arrange them into spreads basically at random. But that doesn't really help us understand the story of the cards as it was intended by tarot's inventors. When we lay the Major Arcana out in grids, we can understand how the "Fool's Journey" evolves and also get a better understanding of how the cards relate to each other when they come up in a reading.
